Retired farmer and insurance salesman George Jacob “G.J.” Mecherle founded State Farm in 1922. His motivation was simple: to be fair and do the right thing for his customers.

We’re #1. Our reign as the nation’s top auto insurer began in 1942, and we’ve remained #1 every year since Statefarm.com went live in 1995. Today, customers use statefarm.com to get rate quotes, check claims, find an agent, plan for retirement, pay bills, and more.

We made high-octane history in 2006, becoming the first property and casualty insurer ever to help promote a major feature film: the Disney/Pixar animated feature, CARS.

In 2002, State Farm went green. We started measuring our greenhouse gas emissions, and we added hybrid and flex fuel cars to our company fleet. By 2008, we had reduced our emissions intensity by 46%, more than double the goal we set for 2012.
